CLAUDIO MACCONE, UNA GRANDE INTELLIGENZA TERRESTRE ALLA RICERCA DI INTELLIGENZE EXTRA-TERRESTRI

Nato a Torino il 6 febbraio 1948, Claudio Maccone ha conseguito le lauree in fisica e in matematica con l'eccellenza dei voti. Oggi è un fisico-matematico di fama mondiale ed è uno dei più importanti scienziati SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence).

Nel 1980 ha ottenuto un dottorato in matematica nel King's College di Londra. In seguito ha lavorato nell'azienda aerospaziale torinese Aeritalia (ora Alenia Spazio) come esperto tecnico per la progettazione di satelliti artificiali.
E' autore di due libri pubblicati esclusivamente in lingua inglese: “Telecommunications, KLT and Relativity” (IPI Press) e “The Sun as a Gravitational Lens: Proposed Space Missions” (IPI Press).

Nel 2000 è stato eletto co-Vice Presidente del SETI Permanent Study Group. Responsabile del progetto Lunar Farside Radio Lab e membro del Consiglio Direttivo di IARA, Italian Amateur Radio Astronomy, ove ricopre la carica di consigliere scientifico e responsabile del settore SETI.

Nel settembre del 2001 è stato dedicato a lui l'asteroide <11264 Claudiomaccone (1979 UC4)>

Nel 2002 ha ricevuto il "Giordano Bruno Award" e il "Searching for Interstellar Communications Award": "The 2002 Bruno Award was presented by executive director H. Paul Shuch ... to Claudio Maccone of the Centre for Astrodynamics in Turin, in recognition of his technical leadership within the International Academy of Astronautics, and specifically for his efforts to establish a radio observatory on the far side of the Moon. Dr. Maccone is, significantly, the first Italian to win the Bruno award, which was established in 1995 and is dedicated to the memory of Giordano Bruno, the Italian monk burned at the stake in 1600 for postulating the multiplicity of inhabited worlds."

Ha scritto più di 70 articoli tecnici e scientifici, di cui la maggior parte è stata pubblicata nella rivista "Acta Astronautica".
